Consumed

Can you believe that the end of the school year is here and summer is beckoning us with flip-flops, ice-cream cones, swimming pools and the planting of gardens.   We, in our class, have studied hard as well. We've had challenges. We've been tested. Some have faced heartbreaking circumstances, and many currently can say as the Psalmist did in vs. 28, "My soul is weary with sorrow," and we are clinging to the very promises of a faithful God.

Psalm 119 has blessed me.  I find a real, down-to-earth person who seeks God's word while doing life.  It is easy to think that others have a perfect, care-free world, and we are the only ones that struggle with emotions, sadness, lack of understanding, obedience.  Yet, we know that is not true.  In this Psalm, we learn that the Psalmist has a determination to cling to the only thing that is worth clinging to - God's Word!

Listen to his declarations, "I consider"; "I will praise"; "I learn"; "I will obey"; "I seek"; "I rejoice"; "I meditate"; "I delight"; "I will not"; "I have chosen"; "I hold fast"; "I run."

That shows me a disciplined disciple.

Last week, in my small group, we discussed how the Psalmist was CONSUMED with longing for God's word AT ALL TIMES.  Yep, verse 20.

I must say that I am consumed with a lot of things that zap my energy. Rob my joy. Make me depressed. Create anger in my soul. Dissatisfaction. Jealousy. Envy. Sorrow.

Convicted? Me too.

We have been given the antidote for a blessed, happy, joyful life!
