A Note from Ann

I've been blessed this week to hear a new song on the radio, "Blessings" by Laura Storey. Has anyone else heard it? She talks about how we tend to pray for God to take away a problem, or heal someone or do something to eliminate a difficult situation we are in, but what if those are the things in our lives that help us to know that He is with us and draw us closer to Him? I jotted down some of the words......"What if blessing comes through raindrops, what if healing comes through tears, what if many sleepless nights are what show us that God is near and what if the trials of this life are God's mercies in disguise?" I may not have remembered the words exactly, but the message really spoke to me. I also believe that it helped lead me to my next scripture to memorize. Colossians 3:1-4 "Since, then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds or things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory." My dad taught a Baptist Student Union lesson on Colossians 3 when I was in college. It was so impressive that people still remember the teaching. I remember the teaching, but somehow I have let it get away from me. Can I challenge each of us to Set our hearts and minds on things above? Fix our every thought on it! The things of this earth are temporal and why do we let these things get us down? What do our problems here on earth have to do with eternity? Nothing! Let's focus on our Lord and His Word and not let the world into it at all. I think my greater memory goal is to memorize all of Col. 3 because the entire chapter talks about the things we need to specifically put off of our old person so we can put the qualities of Jesus on our new redeemed person. Imagine if all of us could successfully do such a thing. If we make such a commitment, Satan is definitely not going to like it. Let's stand together and say in the words of our Lord (from The Message Matt. 4:10) Beat it Satan! We are going to worship the Lord God only and serve Him with all of our hearts.

  1. Ann,
This is exactly where my heart and mind has been also. Thank you so much for sharing what God is doing in your obedience to find HIM.
I heard of a church that memorized ALL of Colossians in one year! That would be a challenge for us, wouldn't it?!!

  2. I have heard that song too! I love it! It so reminds me of Carrie Greene. It took her going through cancer for her to realize that she needed her Savior. There were so many blessings and amazing events that happened along the way. His guiding hand was there every moment. I know that He has amazing plans for Elise and her new family!

I also love the song that says, "sometimes He calms the storm, sometimes He calms His child."

    Love you all!

  3. Thanks Ann for sharing this! I too, love this song. I cry just about every time that it comes on. I have been struggling for awhile now and some days I don't see the point of even getting out of bed. But this song (along with scripture and the Holy Spirit) helps remind me to tell myself, frequently, " I am not here on this earth for myself. God WANTS to use me for a purpose and plan far greater than I will ever see or understand. This life is for HIS glory not my comfort. Use me for whatever purpose you see fit. I am but clay in Your hands"

    All for His Glory!

  4. Ann, I heard this song on Christian radio yesterday and was so moved by it I asked a friend to track down the title and singer for me. He provided me not only with the YouTube link for the song (which I forwarded to all my friends) but your site talking about it. Yes, it captures the life perspective I want to hold onto. Thank you, Ann!
