Super Bowl of Life

Good morning ladies, it seems it is that time of year once again where people are planning and looking forward to the "Super Bowl". I am not a football fan, oh it is okay for it to be on while a take a long nap, as long as the volume is turned down and no one screams as though what just happened on the 42 inch screen will have long term catastrophic consequences in my life. We often misplace the importance of the game and people act as though the state of the universe rests on who wins.

You know we are in a "super bowl" of life. Instead of it being a one game shot to do your best, we have the days of our lives, however long they may be, to seek His will and live it out in our homes, workplace and community. God so loved us that He sent His only son to die for us, opening the way for our salvation. It was complete in Him. Isn't that such a beautiful act of love? I praise the LORD that I do not have to trust in me, I am afraid I would be one big mess. Psalm 49:12-13 tells me ....But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish. This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. That is why my life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 ....Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. I place me in those scriptures.

When we trust God in our "super bowl" of life we will have:
PROTECTION, ...But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Psalm 5:11
GLADNESS...Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him; let all the upright in heart praise him! Psalm 64:10
PEACE....You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3
BLESSING...O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you. Psalm 84:12
CONFIDENCE...He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast in the LORD. Psalm 112:7

Ladies remember, life is not a dress rehearsal for the big game. We are blessed to walk daily in the presence of our LORD. I would like to hear from you before Wednesday with the scripture passage that you are memorizing. Bring your spiral scripture book to class with you Wednesday. We are working on Chapter 3 this week. I look forward to seeing you Wednesday. Oh, by the way, I am sure the super bowl will be on in my presence somewhere on February 5th. For those who enjoy football, may your favorite team win.

  3. Brandy, Thank you for responding. I love that passage, "be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." A beautiful scripture. See you Wednesday.

My whole family is working on James 1:19-20
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

  5. Last week I memorized Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." I'm claiming that verse for Hillary right now. She is struggling. I am going to take my own advice and memorize Psalm 145:17-18 “The Lord is righteous in all His ways and faithful in all he does. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on Him in truth.” I am trusting that He is in control of Hillary's life and that whatever happens will be for His glory and her good. (So, why am I still nauseous?)

    1. Ann, you are still nauseous because you are very caring mother. It takes years (if we ever make it this side of heaven) to perfect giving and leaving our kids to God. Rest in the fact that the LORD says, train up a child in the ways he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 You and Jeff have done a wonderful job raising your children, now pray, pray, pray and watch as God does the rest.

I am reminder in the Proverbs scripture it may take long years of growing before we see the full fruit. Not unlike ourselves I suppose.

Tammy, I like the fact that your whole family is working on James 1:19-20. Keep it up and may we all be found to be quick to hear and slow to speak.

      See you all tonight!

  6. I have finally picked a memory verse...better late than never! My verse is 1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." There are many more verses that I can hold on to regarding fear, among them some that have been mentioned in the posts above and I, like Marilyn, have Proverbs 3:5-6 as my life verse.
